George sets the bar high for grandfathers everywhere

What a joy it is to run an event like Mathilda’s Market. I get to meet such talented artisans, creators and businesswomen (and their very supportive partners) whilst getting to shop most weekends from the most unique and beautiful kids' products known to man (and woman!). Last Sunday at Lane Cove was such a great day yet again. I picked up some lovely goodies for my youngest, Abigail (she's 3 years old). The blue top & scarf are from Rowantree Design, and the red corduroy pants from The Zipper Tree. The red coat is from Mini Life.

I love the buttons on these leggings from Infancy, I bought them in red & blue, plus a purple top, all for $30!

In fact I bought five scarves from Rowantree Design, as I keep them handy to give as gifts when my eldest daughter is invited to birthday parties (she's  8 years old). The scarves were $12, and I usually cap presents at a total of $20, so that means I can add a nice little pencil case or softie and finish it off with cool wrapping paper from Ikea and a card from Pocket Carnival, Printspace or Paperklip.

I just can't get enough of Paperklip's 'Dot Place Cards - Set of 8' .  I punch a little whole in them and wrap them with a colourful string around the present and voila, it's done. It beats cards bought at K-Mart or Target or the newsagency, both in terms of pennies as well as style!

But what I really wanted to talk about today was the most lovely person I met on Sunday. His name is George, and I forgot to ask about his age, but I would guess around 65 or so. (Sorry George if I have that wrong!) He was smiling from ear to ear whist carrying his granddaughter on his shoulders, who was probably around 2 years old. This was all while juggling her little backpack, as well as shopping bags from Mathilda’s Market purchases. He came to our front office desk to find out where The Zipper Tree stall was located. As I walked with him to the stall, I was looking around him to find the mother of the little girl, wrongly assuming she was with him. George must have seen my puzzled face. He laughed and said his daughter was at home looking after her littlest child, and that he had been given the task of coming to Mathilda’s Market, armed with a list as long as Santa's and his grandchild in tow!

And George did what he had set out to do! He mananged to find most of the goodies jotted on the list, and even stopped by some other stalls to see if he could find matching t-shirts. There is no way that my Dad would take one of my kids to a Market with a shopping list  ... it would be sheer torture for him. So my hat off to you George. Please do come back next time and say hello! I would be happy to escort you around and be your personal shopper assistant.

All in all, a great day!

Thanks everyone who came to shop at Mathilda’s, it is great to see such support for this unique and very pleasurable way of shopping for the little ones.

So cute - I did see him wander around.
Thank you so much for a wonderful market - it was my first Mathilda's and I was very impressed. Can't wait for the next market and to see more photos.

I was lucky enough to have George as a customer - definitely one of my favourite customers ever, lovely man and so focused! He and I had his little granddaughter changing in and out of clothes faster than you could believe.

I was wondering where those cute little ceramic jugs with the cows on them are from? Will they be at the Melbourne market this weekend?
Thanks!
